The Captain Cook five Gram Gold Piedfort is part of the Royal Hawaiian Mint's fortieth anniversary commemorative three piece Hawaiian Mint Denomination Set minted with the original dies and issued in 2014.
The obverse features Captain James Cook, who led three great voyages to the Pacific Ocean, charted every major landfall, spoke Polynesian and discovered Hawaii on January 20, 1778. The reverse features the Kona Coast Bank and AU5GR (five grams of gold) inner die reverse dated 1978.
Both dies are unique as they were hand engraved at the actual 21mm die size and minted on special copper piedforts that are extra thick planchets.

Reverse: KONA COAST BANK, Ship's wheel, AU5GR center punch, 1978
